The Center for Community Ministry was birthed out of a desire of Mission staff and its Board of Directors to more intentionally act as a resource for training and education to the wider church. As the gap between the wealthy and the poor continues to grow, and as the government entities continue to look more to the Church and other non-profit organizations to meet the needs of those who struggle to survive, church leaders must be prepared to respond in creative and collaborative ways. The Center for Community Ministry equips people of faith with skills to provide leadership and act as positive change agents in their own communities by providing a variety of training venues.

We celebrate these accomplishments:

  • Seminary internships at Back Bay Mission since the year 2000.
  • Workshops and seminars have been provided to the wider church and local community on topics of community health ministries and leadership development.
  • Sabbatical residencies have been provided to clergy of the United Church of Christ on the Back Bay Mission campus.
  • Unique short-term classroom experiences have been provided to college students and seminarians. Students from Eden Seminary, Defiance College, and Chicago Theological Seminary have participated in classes.
  • Internships for local university students
